About the Shaker Band Program

All 5th and 6th graders in the district choose an instrument to learn to play as part of the music program.  Students may choose to play in the band or the orchestra. In addition to concert band, Woodbury musicians can choose to join the jazz band as well.

Students who choose to continue their music education in band at the Shaker Middle School play an instrument in one of the concert bands. They may choose to play in jazz band also.

There are several concert bands, the marching band and jazz groups at the High School. Some of the bands require auditions for acceptance.

Superior performance and in-depth study are hallmarks of the performing arts at Shaker Heights High School. Performances are supplemented by participation in festivals, state and national competitions, and international tours.

Shaker’s numerous High School and Middle School bands consistently receive top ratings at regional and state competitions, such as the Ohio Music Educators Association (OMEA). Shaker has been named a “Best Community for Music Education” by the NAMM Foundation for eight consecutive years.
